How To Deal With Hearing Loss

Who to see when hard of hearing

For most of us, reading these words will get more difficult as we grow older – but for some, it’s hearing them that becomes a problem. Hearing loss affects a fair proportion of elderly Americans, and is an irreversible process. That’s not to say there’s no hope for those who believe they’re beginning to suffer from impaired hearing, however.

The first step is, of course, to see a doctor. To make things easier on yourself, the best course of action is to see your family practitioner. In many cases, earwax buildup is responsible for impeding sound resolution. If they find that the problem is more serious, however, they’ll typically refer you to an ENT — an ear, nose, and throat specialist, who will work with you to determine the best course of action. However the consultation turns out, remember that a growing number of youth and a good third of senior citizens suffer from some sort of hearing loss — you’re certainly not alone!
